Sandy Canyon Investigation

At the left is another science journal entry two months later by the same primary student.
The primary and intermediate STAR students learned much during their trip to Sandy Canyon. One of the instructional objectives was to have the students learn about natural plant dyes such as those found within lichen.
In the picture to the left, two students are scraping lichen off of the rocks and placing it into a zip-lock bag.

Within the picture to the right is a STAR student proudly displaying a tie-dye T-shirt he designed using all natural dyes. One of which was of the lichen they had personally collected. Another dye came from the juniper tree that is located right behind this student. Look closely at this T-shirt design and see if you can identify the spiral shape.
