Nestled
in the hills of the San Francisco Volcanic Field, the STAR School offers
a unique learning environment. The "place based" program draws
on a fascinating range of geological features and biological and cultural
diversity in the local area. The STAR School also emphasizes sustainable
living and is a solar powered charter school.
The
12,600 foot San Francisco Peaks provide a scenic backdrop and are sacred
to most tribes in the area, including the Navajo and Hopi. They are the
western mountains defining the traditional Navajo world.
